Bells Across America in Need of Restoration
In 1950, the U.S. Treasury Department gifted a replica Liberty Bell to all 48 states, plus Alaska, Hawaii, DC, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands 57 bells in total, cast in bronze at the Paccard Foundry in France. Decades later, many of these national treasures have been neglected, lost, or locked away from the public. ALBRB is committed to identifying, advocating for, and supporting the restoration of every one of them.
Known Bells Currently in Need:
Washington, D.C. Bell #28 or #50 has been MISSING since April 2, 1979. Last seen in front of the District Building at 1350 Pennsylvania Ave. Whereabouts unknown for over 45 years.
North Carolina Bell moved to a “secure storage facility” in June 2025 during a museum renovation in Raleigh. Not accessible to the public and no return date confirmed.
Pennsylvania (Allentown) The Treasury bell was the centerpiece of a museum inside the historic Zion’s Reformed Church where the original Liberty Bell was hidden from British forces. The building changed hands in 2023 and the bell is no longer publicly accessible during ongoing renovations.
Virginia Bell ended up outside a local fire station in Charlottesville after decades of uncertainty, including time in a storage shed. Still viewable but deserves a more prominent, protected home.
Alabama Undergoing active restoration at the Bell Foundry Christoph in Charleston, SC, in time for the nation’s 250th anniversary rededication on July 8, 2026.
Idaho Also shipped to the Bell Foundry Christoph in Charleston, SC for restoration alongside Alabama’s bell.
Kansas Recently restored and now displayed in a place of honor outside a state building in Topeka. A model for what every state should do.
Do you know of a Liberty Bell replica in your state that needs attention? Contact ALBRB we want to hear from you.
